(6 Oct 2015) CHANEL TRANSFORMS PARIS VENUE INTO AIRPORT FOR SPRING/SUMMER ’16 SHOW
Paris’ Grand Palais was transformed into a luxurious airport for the unveiling of Chanel’s ready-to-wear spring/summer 2016 collection.
Artistic director Karl Lagerfeld created « Airport Paris Cambon, » complete with a check-in desk, flight attendants, baggage pick-up area, and functioning departures and arrivals screen.
« Real airports are not exactly the way this one is, » Lagerfeld pointed out.
« This is the idea, the way it should be, in a way it was like this but then they got smaller and flying was another other business. But this is the kind of place for take-off to all kinds of directions in all kinds of situations. »
Models paraded in graphic print dresses and separates, patterned jackets and sequined tops.
Mirrored, airline pilot-style sunglasses accentuated many of the looks.
French actress Vanessa Paradis, her daughter Lily-Rose Depp, actress and model Cara Delevingne and tennis champion Maria Sharapova were among the stars sitting in the front row.
Supermodel Kendall Jenner was among the models who paraded on the Chanel runway. Her look, like many of the other models, came complete with silver heels.
Several of the looks also included silver necklaces, chain belts and Chanel luggage cases, in black with silver accents, beige and gray.
« What about shine, the reflection of the sun on the airplane the whole thing, you know, we did so much gold and gold chains at Chanel that it was fun to make everything silver and chromed and you know, » explained Lagerfeld.
He added, « those cabin cases now we call them Coco Cases. But everybody has more or less created a Chanel bag, so it was time to have a Chanel cabin case. »
